Eyewear for Children

Shopping for eyewear for children is never an easy task. Here at Auerbach & Steele, we have a specialist children’s department, which offers a wide choice of colourful children’s glasses.

We stock lightweight titanium and brightly coloured acetate children’s frames in lots of different shapes, and we fit lenses that are as thin and discreet as possible. We would strongly advise you opt for frames that make your child feel good about wearing them! We would also recommend that you look for frames that come with safety lenses as standard for your children – ours do! Finally, it’s usually a good idea to have a spare pair made up in case they are ever needed!

We are now able to offer myopia control lenses for spectacles. The new MiYOSMART lenses are just like wearing ordinary spectacle lenses. They provide vision correction so your child will experience comfortable vision for both near and distance vision, whilst working to reduce the progression of their short-sightedness. They are easy to adapt to and are suitable for full time daily wear. They're safe and durable - so suitable for active wear and they provide comprehensive UV protection. They are water repellent, which makes them easy to keep clean and they come with a special anti-reflective durable coating as standard.

We advise that children wear sunglasses outdoors as their eyes are far more susceptible to UV damage than adults because the crystalline lens is clear. This allows 70% more UV rays to reach the back of the eye, causing permanent damage. Wearing sunglasses regularly when young can prevent UV related eye issues developing later in life.

We offer a host of colourful, fun and quirky children’s sunglasses for our younger customers and can also fit sunglass lenses in our optical frames too.

In addition, we offer a range of optical frames that are designed specifically for playing sport. These can feature protective silicon nose pads, side vents for reducing condensation and safety lenses. For our youngest customers, we recommend curl side spectacles, comfortably fitting the contours of the ear, ensuring a secure fit.

Children under 16 can only be fitted for prescription spectacles by qualified dispensing opticians. All of our dispensing opticians are fully qualified and registered with the General Optical Council so you can be assured your children will receive expert care here at Auerbach & Steele.
