KameManNen

KameManNen is said to be the oldest eyewear brand in Japan. Originally founded as a plating factory in 1917 in Fukui, the company moved to Sabae after the Second World War and began producing eyewear.

In 1981 KameManNen successfully used titanium, a metal known for its durability and lightness, in the production of its eyewear. It was a world first, sealing Sabae’s reputation globally for producing high quality eyewear.

The name KameManNen is derived from a Japanese proverb which depicts longevity “A crane lives a thousand years, a turtle ten thousand years"(kame means turtle in Japanese whilst mannen means ten thousand years). The company strives to design and produce beautiful eyewear of the highest quality that stands the test of time.

The aim of KameManNen’s founder, Kikujiro Kimura, is to produce a durable product that will be loved for a long time. As a result, the manufacturing process is extremely time consuming. The pursuit of the highest quality possible without compromise is the very essence of KameManNen and the identity of the brand. We are truly proud to stock them in our Chelsea store.

Simple and lean beauty and a sense of unity as an object: these principles drive all aspects of design from the clearance between components to the thickness of metal plating, which are calculated carefully and constructed with sub-millimetre accuracy. It’s the small details that count: KameManNen metal frames feature beautifully crafted nose pads that are formed as a continuous and integral part of the frame itself. They are easy to adjust and extremely comfortable to wear.

KameManNen designs have won the hearts of people all over the world with an aesthetic that remains unaffected by fast fashion trends. The brand is a firm favourite amongst our customers here at Auerbach & Steele who appreciate the timeless designs and evident quality of the frames.
