Lunor

Lunor was founded in 1991 by Gernod Lindner. An avid collector of antique eyewear, and a proud student of the art of German craftsmanship, he built a workshop specifically designed to produce bespoke eyewear.

He crafted his first pair of glasses from pure gold. He called his eyewear brand ‘Lunor’, derived from the French “lunettes d'or” (gold glasses). The gold glasses not only gave Lunor its name, but also became the company’s trademark which is still in use today.

In 2005, Lunor was taken over by the Fux family, who were friends of Gernord Linder. Under the leadership of optician Ulrich Fux and his son, Michael, the Lunor brand has enjoyed continued success.

Michael was in the final stages of his apprenticeship when the family initially took over the business. Upon joining the company, he became responsible for overseeing frame design - a role he continues to this day.

Lunor produces classic frames, like the Lunor Classic Round, inspired directly by the vast collection of antique frames it owns. Subtle design details are incorporated to give them a more contemporary look, with the collections evolving over time rather than following trends in fashion. Lunor frames are the epitome of understated elegance and luxury and they are extremely popular with many of our Auerbach & Steele customers.

Attention to detail, comfort, and fit are the hallmarks of a Lunor frame. The acetate frames feature the original Lunor rivet hinge, ensuring optimal durability. Only the highest quality materials - including titanium, fine-grade steel and precious metals - are used in Lunor frames.

In 2019, Lunor moved its production to a new state-of-the art, sustainably powered HQ in the Black Forest. Tradition and technology go hand in hand at the Lunor factory: cutting-edge machines and laser-monitored devices are used in the frame production to ensure precision that is impossible to replicate by hand. Similarly, the skills employed by Lunor master craftsmen cannot be replicated by machines. Each frame is inspected by Lunor’s master opticians before leaving the factory. This attention to detail and quality control is paramount to their values.

For over 25 years, Lunor has produced and designed some of the most sought-after spectacles in the world. One of their most famous frames is the Lunor Classic Round, the iconic model worn for years by Steve Jobs. Lunor frames are a firm favourite amongst Hollywood elite too. Fans of the brand have included James Dean, Tom Cruise, Elton John, and Oprah Winfrey.

The combination of craftsmanship and quality, their innovative approach to engineering, design, and the art of making luxury eyewear, has all helped build Lunor’s global reputation. Many of Lunor’s most popular shapes come in a variety of sizes and new colours are frequently introduced.

We’re proud to stock Lunor eyewear here in our Chelsea opticians store and we have many discerning customers who appreciate the refined details, minimalist design and understatement of these classic luxury frames.
