Maui Jim

The name Maui Jim is synonymous with sunglasses. The company was founded in 1980 as a small business selling sunglasses on a beach in Lahaina, Maui.

Having identified a need in the market for technology that could combat intense glare and harmful UV - whilst bringing the brilliant colours of the island to life - the company engineered the revolutionary PolarizedPlus2® lens. These lenses effectively reduce 99.9% of glare and block 100% of harmful UVA, UVB, and UVC, whilst boosting colours to unmatched levels. UV rays can lead to serious health issues including sunburn of the eyes, cataracts, macular degeneration, and cancer. Sunglasses that do not provide UV protection can actually cause more damage because they shade the eye, allowing for more UV rays to reach the pupil.

Between 5% and 10% percent of skin cancer occurs around the eyes, so it is important to wear high quality protective sunglasses outdoors, even when it is overcast. Maui Jim sunglasses have earned the Skin Cancer Foundation Seal of Recommendation as an effective UV filter for the eyes and surrounding skin.

All Maui Jim sunglasses are polarised and therefore eliminate 99.9% of glare. Polarised lenses reduce the impact of the sun’s brightness and allow your eyes to stay relaxed, helping to reduce eye fatigue, excessive wrinkling around the eyes, and even avoid headaches. Polarised lenses also help shield your eyes from intense sunlight, thereby giving your eyes a chance to adapt more quickly when moving from one extreme light condition to the next.

In addition, Maui Jim lenses feature patented PolarizedPlus2® lens technology that reduces High-Energy Visible Radiation (HEV) - also known as blue light - without removing the beautiful visible colours of blue from the world around you. Whilst HEV has lower energy rays than UV, recent research suggests they can still penetrate the eye, and this has been associated with AMD (Age-Related Macular Degeneration).

The Maui Jim sunglasses collection includes frames designed specifically for water sports that feature integrated headbands for comfort and security. Maui Jim sport sunglasses also offer high wrap frames for wearing on the slopes which block out glare from snow and ice.
