Ørgreen

Ørgreen Optics is a globally successful eyewear company based in Copenhagen. It was founded originally as a sunglasses brand in 1997 by Henrik Ørgreen, Tobias Wandrup and Gregers Fastrup. All three shared a love of street culture and extreme sports as well as a collective entrepreneurial spirit. Full of creative energy and drive, they went on to launch their first line of optical eyewear in 2002. Today, the company has retailers in more than 50 countries worldwide with its HQ situated in Copenhagen.

Early on in the evolution of the company, Ørgreen spotted a gap in the market. Eyewear for men at the time was either very classic or just too ‘out there’, with nothing offered in between. The company started experimenting with colour, creating a line of Ørgreen eyewear for men that provided a suitable alternative. Their unique, artisanal approach to colour set them apart from their competitors and became their Unique Selling Point that they are now renowned and loved for.

Colour continues to play a very important role in the design process of Ørgreen glasses. The company has its own in-house colourist who has been a part of the business since it was founded. She develops unique colour stories inspired by art, design and nature which are imaginatively applied to the Ørgreen titanium glasses, with frames crafted from an acetate-titanium combination.

Ørgreen frames are made in Japan, a nation with a long and proud tradition in the manufacture of superior eyewear. Each frame is individually crafted, going through more than a hundred processes over a period of nearly six months.

Ørgreen frames are characterised by the attention to detail and precision used in the manufacturing process. Meticulous quality control is strictly enforced at every stage, ensuring Ørgreen frames are crafted to last a lifetime.

The sophisticated manufacturing processes employed have ensured mastery of working with materials such as titanium, precious woods, horn, mother-of-pearl and acetate. In addition, the company has manufactured models with combined finishes such as wood and titanium.
